Roxas let out an exhausted yawn as he walked; trying to keep his closing eyes open. Playing basketball four hours straight with Sora and a couple of his friends was taking a toll on Roxas. How Sora could continuously play was beyond the spiky haired blond. But it didn't matter at the moment. Right now, Roxas just wanted to go home, climb into bed, and sleep the day away; just to wake up and go to school the following morning. He took in the scene of the park around him. The sun that was falling behind the horizon, giving off a soft pinkish-blue sky, the flowing trees that filled the park, and the people running around, laughing, and talking. But as he cast his eyes off to the side—doing a double take—he noticed her. It's not the first time he noticed her, no, he always noticed her and her beautiful feature. Her white lace dress that stopped mid-thigh, her light blue sandals, and her blond hair that perfectly fell over her shoulder, and her blue, beautiful eyes that made his heart beat a hundred times faster.

He should talk to her. He should gather up his courage and talk—

Roxas felt an arm wrap around his neck, pushing him slightly down. "Roxas," Sora said, keeping his grip around Roxas' neck. "Why are you leaving so soon?"

Roxas took a quick glance towards the spot where the beautiful blond was, but saw that she was gone. Roxas let out a sigh, "Because I'm exhausted. Plus, it's getting late and you know your mom will be mad if we don't get home before eight." Sora let out an agreeable sigh. Roxas quickly wrapped his arm over Sora's neck, bringing him down to his level. "Let's go home." Sora and Roxas grinned at each other as they raced home.

Roxas shoved his hands in his beige pants as he walked down the streets of Twilight Town with Sora and Kairi towards their high school. Roxas rolled his eyes in annoyance as he heard the laughing couple next to him whisper to each other. Roxas didn't mind it—he just…he gets tired of all the romance that flies around him when he couldn't even talk to the girl he is madly in love with. Roxas ignored the loving couple and continued down the street towards his school.

Once class ended and lunch began, Roxas, Kairi, and Sora made their way to their usual spot outside. Roxas had offered to eat with someone else so the couple could be alone, but they insisted he stayed, making Roxas feel somewhat uncomfortable. And now, as they sat at the table under the huge oak tree, Roxas couldn't keep his eyes off her. Namine.

Namine was different from everyone else, she was…strange—though Roxas didn't care if she was or not. While Roxas was known by everyone in school, Namine was invisible. They were complete opposites, but that's what drew Roxas to her, her personality, her beauty, her voice…everything.

"Well, Roxas, what do you think?" Sora's voice brought Roxas back to reality.

"Think about what?" He turned his attention to the couple on the other side of the table.

Sora sighed, "What do you think about taking the train at Central Station to Sunset Station and going to Sunset Hill to see the mysterious Ghost Train?"

"Sure," he said, turning his attention back to Namine. But as his eyes landed on her, he noticed that she was standing up and cautiously running after something Roxas couldn't see. Roxas instantly stood up, watching her disappear from his sight.

"Roxas?" Kairi asked.

He glanced down at the two, quickly saying, "I got to go." He ran towards Namine.

Roxas lost sight of her, and he had no idea where she could have gone. Why would she suddenly run off? But as Roxas glanced everywhere around him, he had that weird feeling that he should go straight. Relying on his gut, Roxas ran straight and turned a corner where he instantly spotted her blond hair. He stopped running and quickly walked up to her. "Namine," he barely said.

She looked at him, her blue eyes shining. He could tell she was on the verge of crying but she held back the fighting tears. "Roxas," she quietly sobbed. The way she said his name made his heart skip a beat too many. "M-my notebook." He glanced down the way she was staring at and he began to quickly walk down that small, grassy road. "R-Roxas!"

He looked back at her, a smile forming on his face. "Don't worry," he began, walking back towards her, "I'll get your notebook back. And to prove that I'll come back—" Roxas took of his cross necklace, putting it around Namine's neck. She glanced down at it before looking back up at him. "This is very precious to me, and when I get back, we'll make a trade." Roxas smiled once more before he ran after the thief.

"Hey," Roxas said, watching as two boys—who were laughing and had their backs turned to him—turn his way and he noticed Namine's notebook in one of their hands.

"Hey, Roxas, what are you doing here?" one of them asked.

Roxas held out his hand. "Give it back." They stared at him with a confused look on their faces. "The notebook, give it back." He stared at him with a firm look as they contemplated on whether or not to give it to him.

Finally, they threw it his way, saying, "It was boring anyway." After he watched them leave, Roxas glanced down at her notebook. He knew it was wrong to look—but curiosity took the best of him. He slowly opened it, seeing a drawing of a bird; and as he turned pages, he noticed drawings of trees, flowers, and people laughing—then he stopped. Roxas stared at the drawing on the page that caught his attention.

Roxas walked up to the dazed Namine. She twirled his necklace in her delicate fingers, her eyes staring straight down into the ground. Roxas quietly walked up to her, kneeling down in front of her as he placed the notebook on her lap, causing the blond to jump. "Roxas," she gasped.

"I have a question," he began, watching her as she nodded. "When I got your notebook back, it was already open and I saw a drawing," he lied. "It was a drawing of a cake…" he trailed off, watching her as she let out a small "oh" and began to turn pages and finally revealed a drawing that caught Roxas' attention. "Yeah, that one, can I ask what it is?"

"It's a drawing of the cake I want for my birthday." Namine's fingers traced the outline of the cake. "I've never received a cake for my birthday and one night, I had a dream of this cake. I had this weird feeling I had to draw it."

"And the flowers?" he asked, pointing to the different designs of the flowers on the sides of the page.

"I don't know why, but I saw flowers somewhere…" she trailed off.

Then, it dawned on him. "When is your birthday?" he asked quickly.

Startled by his sudden question, she stuttered, "T-three days."

Roxas stood up, extending his hand out to her. "Let me take you home," he said, a small smile on his lips.

After Roxas walked Namine home, he ran as fast as he could to the bakery. He thought about it after a while whether or not to buy her a cake. Roxas burst through the doors, startling the red haired man behind the glass window displaying different cakes.

"Roxas, you scared me!" Axel said, pressing his hand to his chest. "What are you doing here?"

"Axel," Roxas began, making his way behind the counter, "I know it's my day off, but, let me start working."

"Why would you want to start working if you begged me to—" Axel stopped talking, the idea that Roxas didn't know dawn on him. "It's a girl, isn't it?" Roxas felt himself blush. "It is! What's her name? What are you going to bake for her? Does she know you like her—does she like you too?"

Roxas covered his ears, trying hard to block out Axel's questions. "Can I work, or not?"

"Not unless you answer the questions," Axel stated, crossing his arms over his chest.

Roxas sighed, "Her name is Namine. I want to bake a cake for her birthday that's in three days and no she doesn't know I like her and I don't know if she likes me or not."

"What do you plan to make?" he asked Roxas.

"I don't really know—but I saw a three layered cake and different designs of flowers. I also saw at the bottom of the page Red Velvet, so she must want a Red Velvet cake." Roxas grabbed a sketchpad and a pencil from a drawer and began to draw what he remembered from Namine's drawing. When Axel stayed quiet, Roxas answered his unannounced question. "On her notebook."

"So you have three days." Roxas nodded in response to Axel's statement. "And you have no idea what type of flower to go with." Roxas nodded again. "Well, you have my permission to stay here as long as you like, and if you need anything, I'll be here." Axel patted Roxas' back.

"Thanks, Axel." Roxas smiled.

For the next two days, Roxas kept drawing different designs for the flower and nothing matched perfectly. After school ended, Roxas made his way towards the bakery, lost in thought about Namine's cake. He had only today to get it done and still nothing was coming into place. He was so lost in thought that he didn't hear his name being called until he felt a small grip on his arm. He turned to the person holding his arm and instantly lost his breath at the sight of the beautiful person in front of him.

"Roxas, I've been trying to call you since you left school." Roxas let out a small apology, still staring into her blue eyes. "I forgot to give this back to you the other day. I'm sorry." Namine handed Roxas his cross necklace, not daring to look at him in the eyes.

"Namine," Roxas began, not caring about his necklace or anything besides her. She looked back up at him. "There is a bakery down the street and I want you to meet me there at six tomorrow. Can you do that for me?" She nodded that made Roxas smile happily. "Great, I'll see you tomorrow, then." Just as he watched her leave and Roxas began to walk down the street, he stopped in front of a flower shop and stared at the flowers. He decided to walk inside and hope to find the right flower for the cake.

As Roxas looked around, he was giving up. There were roses, tulips, sunflowers, and every other flower in this store and nothing caught his attention. Just as he was about to leave, something blue caught his eye. As he turned to the blue flower, he felt some sort of attraction to it. He picked up one and noticed it was a Daisy; a blue Daisy. He felt his heart beat rapidly. It reminded him of her eyes, the way it sparkled and made him feel all fuzzy inside. The Daisies reminded him of her because it was pure, beautiful, simple, and made him smile constantly. The Daisy was delicate and not matter how many times he stared at it, he never got tired of looking at it. He grabbed a couple more and pink Daisies along with it as he paid for them and walked out of the store. Everything was coming into place and now it was time to start baking the cake.

Roxas spent the rest of the day creating the ideal cake that was stuck in his head ever since he left the flower shop. He started off with the cake: cutting the first two layers top off and icing them together and placing the third one on top. He then iced it all with white frosting and wrapping a grey ribbon around each cake. He then began to roll icing into small balls and made them into petals of a Daisy. Blue and Pink Daisies made out of icing, a yellow butterfly, and then he made cupcakes, icing them with white frosting and used black icing to write her name one at a time using six out of the nine cupcakes; he also drew a heart that curved itself inward, his necklace that she wore for a day, and combining the two. A heart and his cross necklace—to which a name came to mind when he finished. "Nobody."

He was done. He spent the whole night in the bakery, creating the perfect cake for the perfect girl. He stared at his masterpiece with a feeling of accomplishment. He then began to put everything in place. He put the cake at the top of the stand and began to place the nine cupcakes at the second plate on the stand, having it form a circle and placed the Daisies on the table, surrounding the cake stand. Namine would be here in three hours and Roxas felt exhausted; so he decided to go to the front of the bakery and sat in a booth, resting his head in his folded arms. Roxas was taken over by sleep.

He stirred as he felt someone shaking him. Roxas slowly opened his eyes, taking in the color blond and blue. He sat up, rubbing his eyes. "Roxas, are you okay?" Roxas was fully awake when he heard Namine's voice. He quickly stood up, startling the poor girl, a blush forming on his cheeks. They stared at each other for a minute until Namine walked up to him, her fingers brushing along his cheek, causing his whole face to turn red. "Why do you have flour on you and why are you wearing an apron?"

Roxas remembered why he called her here. He took her hands in his and led her to the back of the store, but stopped before they walked past the door, putting her hands in front of her eyes. "Don't peek," he said. He quickly lit the one candle and walked up behind her, putting his hands on her waist as he led her closer to the cake. "Okay, open." He watched her as she removed her hands and let out a small gasp that made him smile.

What Namine was staring at was his creation. A cake stand with cake on the top plate and cupcakes on the bottom plate; the cake was pure white, with a small blue candle on the top and a grey ribbon wrapping around each layer, pink and blue iced Daisies started at the top of the cake and curved to the bottom—a yellow, iced, butterfly placed at the top of the cake, resting on a blue Daisy. The cupcakes had her name on it, along with the "Nobody" sign, a heart, and his necklace. Under the plate of cupcakes were the real blue and pink Daisies he bought. And it was funny, really, that the white cake reminded him of her dress, the blue Daisies of her beautiful eyes, the pink Daisies of her soft lips, and the yellow reminded him of her hair. The whole thing reminded him of her.

"Roxas, w-why did you do this?" she asked, turning her attention to him.

He blushed, his hand rubbing against the back of his neck. "Uh, well, um…" What could he say exactly? That he loved her? And finally, he gathered up his courage and said, "Because I've had a crush on you for two years." When he realized what he said, he blushed madly. But she only smiled. "W-what?" he asked.

"I-I've had a crush on you f-for two years, too…" She looked down at the ground.

Roxas couldn't help but smile at the beautiful blond. He tipped her chin up with his fingers, her cheeks flushed, and he lightly kissed her lips. "Happy Birthday, Namine," he whispered.
This is my piece for the :iconchained-promises: contest "Icing on the Cake!"

Now this took a long time to figure out how to relate the main thing with the fic and I didn't really know what the whole point of the name--but it dawned on me eventually. :)

Roxas and Namine are not physically on the cake, but there are signs that they are. For instance: the white cake is Namine's dress, the blue daisies are hers and Roxas' eyes--and Kingdom Hearts, the yellow butterfly is their hair, the pink is...her lips? -Plus her (nonexistent) heart. Even on the cupcakes: the Nobody sign, the heart to Kingdom Hearts, and Roxas' cross necklace. Even the ribbon is related to Roxas!

I actually stuck to the name "Icing on the Cake." The flowers are made of icing (the hard type) ha-ha... (I'm such a noob...) :iconsweatplz:

I used no Sea-Salt Ice Cream or Papou Fruit--and they are NOT naked. :D

I hope I did it correctly, if not, I still had a lot of fun writing this. Good luck everyone!

I'm also sorry it is SO long!! D: The words are actually longer than my essay I had to write last week. :iconheheplz:

Note: I do not own Kingdom Hearts

Roxas' necklace is the shape of an X and when I looked it up, it said it was called a cross necklace so I just called it what I found it as. His necklace is not the actual cross of Christ. Just so you know. :)

I also have a question. In Birth by Sleep, Ventus was called the X blade and Roxas' necklace is the shape of an X. Is there a connection to that or am I just thinking too much?
Please answer the question! :D
